John Baptist Wolf was born on July 16, 1907 in Ouray, Colorado. He earned his B.A. in 1929 and M.A. in 1930 from the University of Colorado and his Ph.D. in 1933 from the University of Minnesota. From 1934-1943, Dr. Wolf was an instructor of history at the University of Missouri. He joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1943 as a lecturer in history. He was promoted to associate professor in 1945 and professor in 1950. Dr. Wolf left the University in 1966 to become professor of history at the University of Illinois Chicago (1966-1974). Dr. Wolf's area of expertise was modern European history, specifically 17th century France. John Wolf died on April 22, 1966.
