One United Michigan (Organization)

Hide Profile

One United Michigan is a 501(c)(4) public charity of Republican, Democrat, business, labor, social and religious organizations coming together to defend affirmative action and outreach programs that provide opportunities for women and minorities for better jobs and education and reject all efforts that would adversely affect or reverse equal opportunity programs designed to overcome discrimination in the state of Michigan. Headquartered in Lansing, One United Michigan existed from 2005-2006. One United Michigan planned, organized, and recruited volunteers and allies for, and led a statewide campaign to preserve affirmative action and diversity. It was most known for its statewide campaign against Proposal 2 to amend the Michigan Constitution to ban affirmative action programs that give preferential treatment to groups or individuals for public employment, education, or contracting purposes. In November 2006, voters approved Proposal 2, the third state to ban affirmative action programs.
