Smith, Cornelius Cole, 1869-1936.
Biographical note: Cornelius C. Smith was born in 1869 in Arizona Territory into an Army family. He spent his early life at various military posts including Fort Huachuca and Fort Lowell. In 1890, he joined the Army and later assignments brought him to Arizona. He died in 1936. His son, Cornelius C. Smith, Jr., was born at Fort Huachuca in 1912 and joined the Marine Corps in 1937. Both wrote articles on military history. Cornelius C. Smith, Jr. held a doctorate degree in history and wrote many books on people and events in Southwestern history including "Emilio Kosterlitzy: Eagle of Sonora and the Southwest.
