Roger Hugh Lawson was born November 12, 1913 in Hawkinsville, Georgia. He graduated from the Citadel in 1933 and earned an LL.B. from the University of Georgia in 1936. Lawson was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigations during World War II, Solicitor-General for the Oconee Circuit Courts (1949-1955), member of the State Highway Board (1955-1956), and Chairman of the State Highway Board (1956-1957). In 1958, Lawson ran unsuccessfully against Ernest Vandiver for governor of Georgia. After his bid for governor, Lawson returned to Hawkinsville, Georgia to practice law. In 1939, Lawson married Barbara Daniel with whom he had six children. Lawson died in 1982 in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
