James Ogleby studied medicine at the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1868. He was a physician in Danville, Pennsylvania, specializing in the eye and its treatment, and for a while was in a medical partnership with surgeon Dr. James D. Strawbridge. He was born James Oglesby (following relatives' example, his parents dropped the "s" in the name and didn't restore it until 1886) on 15 August 1840 near Lisbellaw, County Fermanagh, Ireland, and emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1849. He married Elizabeth Ann Vastine, 23 September 1883. Dr. Ogleby died 12 February 1912.
