Formerly the Raj Kapoor Ensemble, the Dance Theater of Nepal has been performing in the United States since 1996. Its performances attempt to provide audiences with an experience of Himalayan culture through the variety of ethnic groups, each having its own music and dance traditions that make up Nepali society. Performance venues have included George Mason University, Princeton University, the Smithsonian Institution, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Boston Museum of Science, among others. Performing members come from Nepal, the United States, Tibet, Africa, and India; among them are Raj Kapoor, Music and Dance Director, and Sherry Onna Handlin, Projects Director.
