Incorporated in 1887 under the state laws of Wisconsin, the company acquired possession, ownership, and control of several smaller railways, thus creating a trunk line that connected Ashland and Milwaukee (Wisc.), St. Paul and Minneapolis (Minn.), the Gogebic Iron Range (Mich.), and Chicago (Ill.).
