Andrew T. Fitch served in the Civil War, and joined the Army in 1866 as Acting Assistant Surgeon to the Third Infantry in the Indian Territory and Kansas. He moved throughout Indian Territory, Kansas and New Mexico from 1866 to 1880, serving at Forts Riley, Harker, Stanton, Sill, Fletcher (later Ft. Hays) and Camps Webb and Supply.
