The Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers (ACPT) was chartered in Montgomery in 1911 as the Alabama Branch of the National Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teacher Associations. In 1924 the organization became known as the Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers. In 1970 the Alabama Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers merged with the Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers. As a part of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, the ACPT is a volunteer organization engaged in educating parents and teachers on issues affecting children and youth and supports public education and the welfare of children.
