Teacher and photographer who compiled genealogical materials on the Sedgwick family. In 1865 he joined the Photographic Corps of the Union Pacific Railroad and tranversed the route west of the Missouri River, shooting photographs for a history of the region. The experience led to a series of lectures and exhibitions throughout the eastern U.S.
