The company was incorporated in West Virginia on April 18, 1912. Conveyed by deed to The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Company on May 21, 1918.
The Chaseapeake and Ohio Railway Company began operating the Gauley & Meadow River Railroad Company in July, 1913. The U.S. Railroad Administration took over operation December 28, 1917.
