Harold Edward Beckett was born in about 1904, the son of H.W. Beckett, and went to Southwell Minster's Grammar School in Nottinghamshire. His family lived at Queen Street, Southwell in 1922. Harold passed his matriculation examination in 1920 and in September of the following year, he joined the intermediate science course at University College Nottingham (now The University of Nottingham). On its completion, he remained at the college, embarking upon the University of London accredited Bachelor of Science degree in physics. He graduated with first class honours in 1925. No details of his subsequent career are known.
