Alvin Saunders was governor of Nebraska Territory, 1861-1867. John Milton Thayer served as a military officer in Indian wars in Nebraska Territory and as a United States Army officer in the Civil War. He was involved in the organization of the Nebraska state government and later served as governor of Nebraska, 1887-1891.
