Madeleine Wallin Sikes was a teacher and clubwoman in Chicago. She was educated at the University of Chicago and taught history at Smith College between 1894 and 1896. She was a Hull-House resident between 1896 and 1897. She was also a member of the Chicago Woman's Club and the Chicago Woman's City Club. She was the author of the study, Summary of Laws Relating to Compulsory Education and Child Labor, 1901. George Cushing Sikes (1868-1928) was a publicist and community leader in Chicago. He began his career as a printer and journalist in Minnesota. He then moved to Chicago and worked with the Chicago Record and the Chicago Daily News. He was a member of the Municipal Voters League and held several appointments with the City of Chicago.
