State Veterans' Facility of Michigan.

The Michigan Soldiers' Home, established by Public Act 152 of 1885, was the direct predecessor of the State Veterans' Facility located near Grand Rapids, Michigan. The facility was created to provide general medical care and a place to live for indigent and disabled veterans of the state of Michigan who were honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces. Under Public Act 212 of 1893, services were extended to wives and mothers of soldiers and to former nurses. Under Public Act of 1945, the facility was renamed the State Veterans' Facility. Under the Executive Organization Act of 1965 the operation of the facility was placed within the Michigan Dept. of Public Health. In 1991, it was again transferred to the Michigan Dept. of Military Affairs.
