Organized in 1935 as the United Automobile Workers of America, when the union merged with the United Farm Equipment and Metal Workers in 1945, its title changed to the International Union, United Automobile, Aircraft, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America. The union name later changed to its present title, the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America.
