Milliken, Seth Mellen, 1836-1920
Variant namesSeth Mellen Milliken was born in 1836 in Poland, Me. He married Margaret Leighton Hill of Dover, N.H. in 1874. Their children were Seth M. Milliken, Jr., M.D.; Gerrish Hill Milliken (1877-1947); and Margaret Leighton Milliken (Mrs. Harold Ames Hatch). Seth Milliken founded Deering, Milliken & Co. in 1865 with William Deering, who withdrew in 1868 to establish Deering Harvester & Co. in Chicago. Gerrish Milliken became head of Deering, Milliken & Co. upon his father's retirement, about 1915.
