  • December 11, 1773: Born, Suffield, Connecticut, of David and Rachel (Kent) Tod.
  • 1795: Graduated Yale. Entered Litchfield Law School.
  • 1797: Married Sarah Isaacs. Admitted to the bar and began practice in New Haven, Connecticut.
  • 1800: Removed to Youngstown, Ohio. Admitted to the bar at Marietta.
  • August 1800: Appointed prosecuting attorney of Trumbull County, Northwest Territory.
  • 1801: Retained by the Connecticut Land Company in connection with partition of the Salt Spring Tract.
  • 1802: Became appraiser of taxable property.
  • 1803: Appointed road commissioner.
  • 1804 - 1806 : Served in Ohio State Senate.
  • January 1807: Appointed to State Supreme Court, after serving as interim judge.
  • 1807 - 1809 : Upheld right of courts to declare unconstitutional an act of the legislature.

  • 1812: Active at Fort Meigs and Sackett's Harbour in War of 1812.
  • February 1816: Elected presiding judge of the Third District Court of Appeals. Served until 1829.
  • 1817 - 1818 : Elected as first president of first agricultural society in Trumbull County, Ohio.
  • 1840: Chairman of Warren, Ohio, convention to promote presidential candidacy of William H. Harrison.
