New Jersey. Superior Court

Hide Profile

From 1947 to 1979, the Monmouth County Court was responsible for appeals from penalties imposed by the municipal courts for criminal cases. In 1979, jurisdiction of the county court was transferred to the New Jersey Superior Court. Consequently, record series for the books (4300.2) and sample cases (4300.5) are a continuation of the Monmouth County Court criminal appeals record series (4200.7). While the criminal appeal books are permanent records, the case files are on a five-year retention schedule. Since these records are a rich source for social and local history, the Monmouth County Archives retained a selected sample of case files for permanent retention.

From the description of Municipal appeals records, 1979-1996. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 70975710

In 1948, New Jersey courts reorganize and a new Superior Court is constituted with 3 divisions: Appellate; Chancery; and Law; these handle the cases of the old Supreme Court; the Court of Chancery, and those of the Circuit Courts.

From the description of Recognizor registers, 1922-1986 [microform]. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 70973972
