The recordings were created by songwriter Johnny Mercer (1909-1976) and his colleagues and fans during Mercer's career as a songwriter, performer and businessman. Mercer was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. He moved to New York City and later to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actor and songwriter; during his years in Hollywood (1935-1976) Mercer became one of America's foremost songwriters. Mercer was also a popular vocalist and recording artist, and a co-founder of Capitol Records.
