Harry L. Burns was born on the family homestead in Blaine County, Montana, on March 30, 1896, the son of Thomas and Harriet (Luse) Burns. He grew up on the family farm. He servied in the Army in Europe during World War I. After the war he taught for a while and then went to law school. He practiced law, specializing in water law, but continued to be involved with the family ranch. He died January 4, 1975.
