Joseph Forbes was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Detroit, Mich. A Democrat, Forbes represented the 67th District (Oakland County, Michigan). He was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1970, and served successive terms until 1984. He was elected Majority Floor Leader in 1975, 1977, 1979, 1981, and 1983. Prior to his career as a state legislator, Forbes was a councilman and mayor of Oak Park, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to various organizations: Kiwanis, PTA, Jewish War Veterans and B'nai Brith.
