Henry Cuthbert Bazett was born in Gravesend, England, in 1885. He was educated at Oxford University and served as a medical officer in the British Army during the First World War. In 1921, he was appointed professor of physiology at the University of Pennsylvania, a position he held until his death. His scientific work was largely concerned with temperature control, circulation and blood volume. He was serving as president of the American Physiological Society when he died in 1950.
