Ryan was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Connecticut and the College of the Sacred Heart in New York. She worked briefly for Sheed & Ward. Her first book, At your ease in the Catholic Church, was published in 1938. Ryan was active in the Liturgical Movement. She authored, edited, or translated over 25 works on the topics of theology, philosophy, and primarily liturgy. Ryan died in 1993.
