Born in Stuttgart in 1902, Bach received a doctorate in German literature from the University of Berlin in 1928. He was an author and editor until his emigration to Great Britain in 1939, and continued his literary work there, including his biography of Bernays, Jacob Bernays: Ein Beitrag zur Emanzipationsgeschichte der Juden und zur Geschichte des deutschen Geistes im neunzehnten Jahrhundert. Bach died in London on December 5, 1977.
