Cooper-Leavitt was born in Cardston, Alberta Canada, where she lived until her parents divorced when she was three. After the divorce, Cooper-Leavitt moved with her mom and brothers to Lethbridge, Alberta Canada and then to Stirling. Cooper-Leavitt majored in Anthropology at Brigham Young University, which piqued her interest in the language theory that she discusses in this project.
