Campbell King (b. Aug. 30, 1871, Flat Rock, North Carolina-d. Oct. 16, 1953), Major General in the U. S. Army, began his military service in 1897 as a private. He served in Cuba, the Philippines, Hawaii, China, and on the Mexican border before arriving in France with the First Division in 1917. Later in World War I, he was assigned to the 7th and 3rd Air Corps and participated in key battles on the Western Front including Verdun and Meuse-Argonne. He retired in 1933.
