Myron Thomas Sturgeon (MTS) is an Ohio University (OU) Professor Emeritus of Geology. He was known by the nickname "Doc" Sturgeon to many friends, colleagues, and students. His career focused on Ohio geology, particularly Pennsylvanian-age rocks and fossils in eastern Ohio. MTS received his undergraduate degree from Mount Union College, and his graduate degree and doctorate from Ohio State University (OSU). MTS joined The Ohio Academy of Science in 1935 and was elected a fellow in 1945. In 1946, MTS accepted a position in the Department of Geology and Geography at OU. He retired in 1978. During his career, MTS amassed a collection of well-documented Pennsylvanian-age fossils that number more than 50,000 specimens. These specimens are now housed in the research collections of OSU.
