Dean Cullom Smith (1900-1987) was an aviator and airline industry executive. He served as a pilot on the Richard E. Byrd Expedition to Antarctica from 1928-1930 before working as a pilot for American Airlines from 1930-1939. Smith then worked as an executive for the Curtis-Wirth Corporation from 1939-1943, the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation from 1943-1948, the Hughes Aircraft Company from 1948-1953, and then Lear, Incorporated from 1953 until his retirement in 1965. He also wrote an autobiography in 1961 "By the Seat of My Pants."
