Rusk, George Yeisley, 1891-1982.
Biographical Note: George Yeisley Rusk was a theologian, philosopher, writer, and teacher.
He was born in Baltimore Md. in 1891. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University (1913), the Princeton Theological Seminary (1916), and received his Ph. D. (1922) from New York University. During the 1920s, Rusk served with the Congregational Church and taught religion and philosophy. In the 1930s, Rusk became interested in the principles of Socialism and wrote several essays on economics. His study of Gestalt psychology led him to a methodology for resolving cultural conflicts, and he promoted this concept through his writings and his many memberships in societies. Rusk devoted many years to the planning of a Senior Research Institue for retired professional people proposed for the city of Columbia, Md. Lack of public funding ended the project. From 1946 to 1951, Rusk taught literature and rhetoric at the University of Baltimore. Rusk wrote extensively on philosophical and religious subjects, some published in scholarly journals. George Yeisley Rusk died in 1982.
