Burkhalter, James Lewis, 1835-1908.
Maquon, Ill. carpenter who helped raise Company F of the 86th Illinois Infantry and then joined it to be elected Captain and served throughout the Civil War under Generals McCook, Fearing, Davis, Morgan and Slocum. Served in many states including Georgia during Sherman's march through the state. Returned to Illinois to the lumber and building business and eventually acted as president of the Galesburg Farmers and Mechanics Bank.
