Margaret Hood became the first instructor of occupational therapy at the University of British Columbia's School of Rehabilitation Medicine in 1961. Prior to her appointment, she had served as supervisor of occupational therapy at the Workman's Compensation Board Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver since 1955. Hood also participated in the Cooperative Committee Towards a School of Rehabilitation Medicine. Organized under the auspices of the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society, the committee began to lobby for the establishment of the School in 1956.
