James LaCount was born in N.Y. in 1831. During the Civil War he was a member of the 5th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry and attained the rank of First Lieutenant. Later, he lived with his family for a time in Linn County, Kan. before moving to Colo. At the turn of the 20th century, James LaCount worked as a miner and provider of mining equipment in Gunnison, Colo., while his wife, Marie LaCount, was in Leadville, Colo. Later the couple lived in Jefferson County, Colo.
