Bernardino Spada was born in Ravenna in 1594 and died in Rome in 1661. Bernardino studied law and the humanities in Ravenna. Paul V named him apostolic secretary and appointed him a referendary. Gregory XV assigned him to a variety of tasks, and finally Urban VIII made him bishop in partibus of Amiata and nuncio to Paris; he received the purple in 1626. During the pestilence of 1630 he showed great charity in helping those in need.
