Henry Will was a pewterer in New York City and Albany, N.Y. After 1793, he was primarily a dry-goods merchant. Born in Herbohn Germany about 1735, Will's family emigrated to New York City, where Will married Magdalena Haan in the Reformed Dutch Church on Nov. 25, 1761. Shortly thereafter, Will established a shop in Old Slip called "The Sign of the Block-tin Teapot." Sometime in late 1775 or early 1776, Will moved to Albany, where he continued in the pewter trade. He was elected to the New York General Assembly in 1789, serving until 1797. In 1793 Will moved his shop to 41 Chatham St. and the nature of his business changed for city directories listed him as a shopkeeper, proprietor of a dry-goods store, or merchant until 1802. Will's brother, William, has also a pewterer in Philadelphia, Pa.
