Veneta Nielsen was born October 25, 1909 in Wellsville, Utah to Mr. & Mrs. Paul Leatham. She married Harold L. Nielsen, with whom she had two children. Following high school she attended Utah State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1940. In 1946 she was appointed to the faculty in the USU English department where she taught for the next thirty years. After her retirement Nielsen conducted poetry writing workshops for the Logan Chapter of the AAUW, and also served as a judge for various poetry competitions. She was the author of several volumes of poetry, among them: Familiar as a Sparrow, and Looking for the Blue .

Veneta Nielsen (1909-1998) was born in Wellsville, Utah. She attended Utah State University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1940. In 1946 she was appointed to the faculty of USU's English Department where she taught for the next thirty years. Nielsen was a close friend of poet May Swenson. After her retirement Nielsen conducted poetry writing workshops for the Logan Branch of the AAUW and served as a judge for various poetry competitions. She authored several volumes of poetry, among them: Familiar as a Sparrow, and Looking for the Blue.
