The Woman's Association for the Betterment of Public School Houses in North Carolina was organized in Greensboro in 1902 by Charles McIver, President of the State Normal and Industrial College. Its purpose was to organize local groups of interested parents and teachers in an effort to improve the public schools in the state, concentrating on improving the buildings and grounds. In 1919, the Association merged with the North Carolina Congress of Parents and Teachers.
