The Executive Committee formed in 1917 to fulfill a need for executive power in the University of Oregon Medical School. The Committee was composed of six members appointed by the dean, who were responsible for decisions pertaining to all the affairs of the school, subject to the approval of the faculty. The Executive Committee still exists in 1999, evaluating major policies concerning research and education.
