Hugo Weisgall was a Moravian-born American composer.

Weisgall studied composition and conducting at the Curtis Institute, comparative literature at Johns Hopkins University and took composition lessons from Roger Sessions privately. After several years in Europe, during and following World War II, he returned to the United States and was active in musical organizations in the Baltimore area before shifting most of his activities to New York. There, he joined the faculties of the Jewish Theological Seminary, Queens College and the Juilliard School and was named Associate Director for Education at Lincoln Center. In addition to his teaching, he worked as a conductor and as a composer, his output centering primarily on a dozen operas, a number of which have received full scale productions by the New York City Opera and other companies.
