Lorena Williams was born in Iowa. She married Roydon Showers in 1924. After living in Minnesota for several years, they moved to Juneau, Alaska, in 1940 and then to Anchorage in 1941. Lorena Showers worked as a waitress in Anchorage and became an active member of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union. She negotiated the first union health program in Alaska in 1952 and became one of the trustees of the program. She served on the government commission and other committees. She wrote a book, Here Comes the Showers, about her husband who died in 1968.
