Soldier, bookstore owner, and insurance company president, of New Brunswick and Piscataway Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey; graduated from Rutgers College, 1916; commissioned a second lieutenant, April 1917; received training at Fort Meyers and Camp Lee (Virginia), Camp Sevier (South Carolina), and Camp Dix (New Jersey); became an officer in Company M, 311th Regiment, 78th Division; commissioned a first lieutenant, January 1918; sailed with his battalion from Boston to England, May 1918, and arrived in France by June; spent two months in Pas de Calais before moving to the southeast with his battalion which then participated in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne campaigns; wounded while serving near Grandpre (Ardennes province), November 1, 1918; spent his remaining overseas months in hospitalization, treatment, and a recuperation on the Riviera; commissioned a captain, December 1918; sailed for the United States, March 1919; mustered out, May 1919; managed the New Brunswick book and stationery store of his father, which he subsequently purchased; served as president of the New Brunswick Mutual Fire Insurance Company; lived in New Brunswick until ca. 1952 when he moved to Piscataway Township.
