The University of Judaism, the West Coast branch of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (located in New York), was founded in Los Angeles in 1947. Initially a Jewish teachers training institute, the University of Judaism grew to include undergraduate, continuing education, and rabbinical preparatory programs.
