Alston family.
South Carolina family. William Alston (1756-1839), a Charleston and Georgetown District plantation owner and South Carolina state legislator, changed the spelling of his name from Allston to Alston to avoid confusion with his relative William Allston (1738-1781). His children included William Algernon Alston (1782-1860), Charles Cotesworth Pinckney Alston, and Thomas Pinckney Alston (1795-1861).
