Thomas Henry Crouch (1915 - ) was born in Douglas, Arizona, and attended Douglas High School and the University of Arizona before entering Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1934. At Tulane he entered a premedical study program, and graduated from the medical school in 1939. He entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a commissioned First Lieutenant in 1940, assigned to the First Cavalry Division at Fort Bliss, Texas. Later in 1940, he was accepted for training at the School of Aviation Medicine, Randolph Field, Texas. Crouch served in medical command roles and as Surgeon at several domestic Army and Army Air Corps bases during World War II. He also served as Surgeon to the following outfits: 315th Bombardment Wing at Patterson Field, Colorado; VII Bomber Command, Saipan, Marianas Islands, and Territory of Hawaii; Seventh Air Force, Okinawa; and as Deputy Surgeon to the Fifth Air Force at Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan. After returning from Japan, Crouch served a distinguished medical career in numerous medical facilities and base hospitals of the USAF, including another overseas assignment from 1950-1952 at Clark Air Base, Philippine Islands. In 1962, he was appointed Directorate of Medical Staffing and Education, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., and served as Director of that office from 1963 - 1965. In 1965, he was appointed Commander of the Wilford Hall USAF Hosptial at Lackland AFB, Texas. He also served in command roles at the Aerospace Medical Division, Brooks AFB, Texas, and the Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters, U.S. Air Force. In May, 1970, General Crouch was appointed Deputy Surgeon General of the U.S. Air Force. Crouch's career achievements include service on many military and civilian medical boards, including a term as President of the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons. He has also received the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, and the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster. He retired from active duty on September 1, 1972.
