Born in Japan. Business Consultant, Scholar. Kumiko Watanuki was born and raised in Japan. She earned a B.A. in management from Mundelein College, a M.A. in organizational development from Loyola University Chicago, an M. Phil. in social anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and an Ed. D. in adult education from National-Louis University in Chicago. In her professional career, Watanuki, worked several facets of business including corporate planning, personal administration, operations management, and organizational development. She also served as a consultant for major corporations in the United States and Japan. In 1991, she became a visiting faculty member for the School for New Learning at DePaul Univerisity in Chicago where she taught classes on business, international relations, and Japanese literature through the lens of film. She has published several texts on business and is also active in the Chicago community, as demonstrated by her involvement with the Chicago Public School Reform project and the Program and Planning Committee of the Spanish Coalition for Jobs, Inc.
