Anne Bufton, born in 1899, rose to national prominence through her dedication to helping others through community service. Claiming she was 18, Bufton joined the Women's Royal Naval Air Service during World War I in 1915. She was a 30-year member, and past president (1962-1964) of the Women's Overseas Service League, a national organization of women who served overseas during times of military conflict.
