Joseph L. Cosetti received his J.D. from Duquesne University in 1975. He was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania in 1980, and served as Chief Judge of the Western District from 1985 to 1994, when he retired only to be immediately recalled. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (NCBJ), where he served as president from 1991 to 1992. The NCBJ aims to secure a greater degree of quality and uniformity to both the practice of law and the administration of justice in bankruptcy law.
