Robert Guinn joined the Norwich University faculty as an assistant professor in the modern languages department in 1925. He became head of the department in 1927, a position he held until 1955. Guinn held many positions within the university, including acting director of athletics, commandant, dean, director of admissions, and guidance director among others. He became university historian in 1958 and retired in 1960. Robert Guinn compiled and published The History of Norwich University, 1912-1965 in 1966. He was married to Mary Smollett.
