Martin Elliott Thomas, descendant of California Pioneers and the son of Henry Foster Thomas and Hazel (Inlow) Thomas, was born August 29, 1911 in Merrill, Oregon and moved to Sacramento, California in 1913. He graduated from Stanford University in 1933 and earned a master's degree from UC Berkeley. Thomas served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps in World War II, seeing service in England, France, and Belgium. He then worked 32 years as a librarian at UC Berkeley, UCLA, and the California State Library. Thomas died in Sacramento on January 1, 2007.
