Ruth Wittenberg, a long-standing community activist, served on a number of civic organizations concerned with the refurbishing and rehabilitation of Washington Square Park between the years 1964 and 1972. She served as the Vice Chairman of Community Planning Board #2 and as Secretary of the Architects Committee assigned to the rehabilitation of the Park. She also served as reporter of the frequent but often undated joint meetings of the Planning Board and Architects Committee.
